This would depend on the environment that you are working in, generally doctors work within a medical facility where firearms are not allowed, however if the is a need to go outside of the wire (safe boundary) then you may have or need to carry one.

Is there any exceptions for carrying one in a medical facility and could you explain what the “wire” is in more comprehensive detail.

Army doctors will still have to conduct their weapons handling test and practice their shooting at the ranges every year and before each deployment to ensure you are ready. There are very few exceptions to the carry of firearms within a med facility for example if there is an imminent threat or if you are outside the wire. Being outside the wire means that you are outside of a guarded perimeter which is not guarded so therefore the risk increases. Places such as camp Bastion was a guarded and secure area so no firearms would be allowed within the camp however the other side of the fence you would need to be armed but ideally firearms would be left outside under guard to prevent risk of injury to yourself or other casulties.

Thanks, sorry to bother you again just quite curious and interested.
Are armed soldiers placed inside medical facilities and inside the wire, if so why can’t army doctors keep their side arm?
