Ok to answer the two parts to this question:
1. Members of the Royal Engineers go everywhere the Army goes. I cannot remember a deployment or exercise i have been on where they have not played a part. On operations they build or adapt the infrastructure we use. Different roles within the Royal Engineers are more likely to be closer to the front line. Demolitions and EOD are right up there however those that build infrastructure are often relatively further back or within a area protected by Combat Arms soldiers.
2. If you chose the trade of Electrician, or any trade for that matter, the Army will train you to complete that role. Often more technical trades can get these courses civilian accredited, which is super useful for life after the Army.
