I’m not completely sure but I believe there is/was a selection process. You used to be able to get sponsored by a family member within 1 para

Thanks for your question.
Officially you can go straight to 1 Para from successful completion of P Coy and your jumps course but you would have needed to have been selected to do so by the staff on the course. The preferred option is generally for soldiers to serve two years with 2 or 3 Para to gain experience and then transfer to 1 Para.
As J mentions above, if you have a family connection to a certain Battalion they may take that into account.
