Hattie V. asked a question to Tori C.
Hi Hattie,
There is a huge range of deployments and exercises that require medical officer support in the Army.
I haven't been away for a couple of years (you don't deploy during speciality training), but prior to that most of my time was split between the UK, Brunei, Oman and Kenya - so when I went away it was always somewhere hot! But there is a big difference between being in the desert and being in a jungle, both in regards to how you live (hammocks are surprisingly comfy) and what sort of medical problems you end up treating.
I always enjoyed it, most of the teams I worked with were relatively small. It wouldn't be unusual to be the only female, but honestly this was never a problem.
I would highly recommend it. It can be busy, and very varied, but the travel opportunities are great, and although working with remote supervision (all GDMOs have support) can be daunting to start with, you get great training and it's a great experience.
