You can take personal items with you to Basic Training and most people do. You'll only have one personal locker of space during basic training, the rest if for military kit, so you're a little limited until you get to unit.
You'll get regular room inspections but your personal kit won't be inspected unless the training staff have a reason (e.g. the locker starts to smell).
