    Hi there,

Soldiers with the Household division and in this case the Grenadier Guards rotate through ceremonial duties throughout parts of their career and are not permanently based in a ceremonial role. They are Infantry soldiers first and foremost and maintain this role through training and deployments as Infantry soldiers.

Thank you for the reply, is there a role in any of the guards which is only ceremonial, or do you have to be an infantry soldier aswell?

There are no guards roles which are only ceremonial. The only role that we have that is purely ceremonial would the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery who are a horse mounted ceremonial artillery unit.

Do the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery do adventure training?

    Josh W.

Yes absolutely, as do all of our units. In fact, personnel from Kings Troop are conducting trips skiing in the new year which is only one example of the types of adventurous training and sport we do.

What sort of things do the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery do, do they stand outside of horse guards parade?

You can find out more about the role of a Mounted Gunner here - https://jobs.army.mod.uk/roles/royal-artillery/gunner-ceremonial/. They provide gun salutes at ceremonial occasions as well as providing performances all over the country.

Ok Thankyou! I know they are in the RAF and not the British army but do you know if the kings colour squadron are purely ceremonial, or do they fight aswell?

    Josh W.

The King's Colour Squadron are also dual role and are both ceremonial and act as a regular field squadron under 63 Squadron RAF Regiment.

Would you know if the reserve 1st battalion London guards stand outside of Buckingham palace?

    Josh W.

They do not ordinarily do this role and it is a ceremonial role fulfilled by regular soldiers.
