Hello. As I am aware you must do both at some point in your career. I didn't get the choice of which to do first so I was HCMR for a few years before spending most of my career in HCR. I do know some who also had no choice but to go HCR and who went HCMR after a number of years. It really depends on where the workforce is needed when you joint but you should be under the impression you will be doing both. It is possible however to get a permanent post within the riding staff or a a farrier but this would be something to consider latter in your career.
