Can you shoot left handed?

Unfortunately the sight in my right eye is poor so I naturally shoot left handed and always have done as my left eye vision is perfect. Is there no way for people to shoot left handed in the forces? As this is potentially the only thing stopping me joining.

    Thomas,

Everyone who joins the British Army must learn to shoot the SA80 service rifle, which is designed to be fired right-handed. It can be fired left handed, but this is considered to be an advanced technique and isn't permitted at Basic Training. Left-handed recruits routinely adapt to firing right-handed successfully.

Your eyesight needs to be good enough to pass a medical assessment. If you have any medical conditions that indicate you wouldn't be able to complete Basic Training your application will not be successful.

If you're unsure, it's worth applying and going through the medical assessment to get a definitive answer.

    Good luck!
