Hi Madeline, I would like to become an Apache pilot so I was wondering if there was any time in your training where you got to choose your operational aircraft. Thanks, Theo
Hi Theo,
Thanks so much for your question.
Yes, near the end of the pilots' course you submit your preference of aircraft type. The board that decides where everyone ends up posting to will take your preference into account but ultimately the decision is made depending on where the need is at that time. IE: which aircraft type has spaces on for new pilots.
You will have a pretty good understanding of where the spaces are once you get to the end of the pilots' course so usually you'll be able to make a fairly informed decision.
I hope that makes sense and answers your question.
Maddie
