Can you join the army as a time served welder fabricator

And if you can join what would be the benefits compared to a normal workshop job that’s not the army

    Hello.
Yes you can join the army and work with metal either as a 'Royal Engineer - sheet metal worker' or in the 'Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers' as a 'Metal Smith'.
There are a lot of benefits of training in the army over a regular workshop. You can choose what job role you want and you don't require any prior experience. The army will train you, pay for the training, pay you and guarantee you a job at the end of you training.
The training you will be doing is apprenticeship based and will be similar to that in an ordinary collage except you will receive all the training up front will be paid a full wage (at least £23,496 a year plus other financial benefits) to attend and complete the course on a full time basis. This means you will get the benefit of a several year collage course in a much shorter time allowing you to move onto the actual job and earning experience and further skills, and not have to worry about getting a job as well so you can support yourself through training.
Thanks, and if you have any other questions please let me know.

Hey there I’m just confused would I skip the apprenticeship because I have already done it for 6 years? Thanks

    Hello Lee,

Army apprenticeships are completed alongside your training and day-to-day job. The way it works is that during the mandatory trade training you're accredited for apprenticeship modules, if there are any modules that training doesn't cover they're assessed in unit through your daily work. So in short, no, you wouldn't skip the training despite your experience. However, once you've finished trade training you'll be able to enrol on a higher qualification, which I'm sure you'll be able to complete ahead of your peers due to your experience.

I hope that goes some way toward answering your question.
