Can you choose where you will be based for training near to home or is this not a personal decision when joined ?

Hello Toni,
For training, you must go to one of the Army Training Regiments. The Training Regiment you go to will depend on your role and age. You can find out more information here: Soldier Training | Army Jobs
After training, where you're posted will again depend on your role in the Army. You get a say in where you'd prefer to be posted and the Army will do its best to accommodate you, but it isn't always possible. As personal example, I normally get my 1st preference when I post, however, I once got posted somewhere that wasn't on my preferences at all: it's just part of the job.
