    Hi Liam,

    Thank you for your question.

Whilst protection of the UK is a UK Defence task, so is the protection of our overseas territories, and support to our allies and partners. We split the protection of the UK between the military, and our civil forces such as the police.

Although there are a few roles within the Army where you may not need to deploy, these tend to be highly specialist roles which can be conducted from the UK, like cyber warfare. It is important to remember that the propose of the Army is to fight and win wars on land, and so most of our forces need to deploy overseas to do this.

It is also worth adding that whilst overseas deployments can be daunting, I have always found them to be very rewarding and they are a really important part of the job.

If you are absolutely adamant that deploying overseas is not for you then maybe have a look at the Civil Service. These are civilians who work with all different government departments, including defence. They are UK based and many of their departments cover the type of work you mention in your question.

Hello. While we don't have a Home Guard type of unit anymore there are plenty of opportunities in the armed forces that are not combat based and you could look at the Army Reserves for part time employment. However no matter what job role you do there is always the chance of getting deployed abroad in support of other service personnel. Typically the opportunity's to go work in other countries are an excellent way to travel, explore, get paid extra to do so and are not for combat operations.
If you have any other questions let me know. Thanks.
