    Hi Cinnamon,

Mental illness is not a definitive bar but it one of the more difficult ones for our team to assess. Our team, as part of the application process, gain access to your medical records and it is then that they can make a decision that is specific to you.

So the decision is I didn’t pass due to mental illness. What if it’s been a period of time could it not be relooked at?

Hi, the army has a duty of care and if there is evidence to suggest that if you have had a period of mental illness then the army and the pressure and stresses of both the training and job role could exacerbate a previous bout of mental illness. Even if you think you are ok now, the stresses within the army could bring it on. Ultimately the army is training you to fight in conflict - that is what we are all trained to do and it needs individuals who can cope with that pressure when you are fighting for survival for yourself and those around you.
