You are given an opportunity to discharge during training. If you choose to stay after this time you will be required to give a return of service ie you will need to stay in the army for 4 years (this includes your time in training). After this time you can leave whenever you want but you will be required to give 12mths notice. The average most people tend to stay in the army is 8 years (but, as i said, there is no requirement to) as you also get a better resettlement package when you leave and access to enhanced learning credits (which can be put towards a degree or another higher level training of your choice). I hope that helps.
