Can I join the army although I have autism and anxiety?? Anxiety is due to school and is under control.

I am autistic and with that I have anxiety but this is usually to do with my home life and school rather than Generalised Anxiety. I have been thinking about joining the army for about 4 years now but this is the first time I have properly considered it. I would like to go to Uni with the army bursary/scholarship but as I have been researching people are often rejected because of their mental health I self-harmed a while ago now and it was very serious self-harm, and want to know if I have any real possibility of being accepted (which I probably don't)?? My sister has a friend who joined only a year after multiple suicide attempts and was accepted, so am confused about he could be accepted but I probably won't even though my history is no where near as severe and is brought on by home and school circumstances rather than anything else. The army is the only career I can see myself in.

    Brooke,

We are unable to give medical advice on this platform, however what I can say is that yes it is possible to still join the Army with a history of Autism and mental health issues. This being said everyone is taken by a case by case basis and the doctors will investigate, this means that I can not guarantee that you will or wont be accepted. My advice would be to apply and see how it goes, there is always the appeal process to go through if you are rejected. I feel it`s better to apply and know where you stand, than not apply and never know for sure.
