...combat medical technician and then after a few years, train to be a trauma surgeon in the army?
Hello,
If you wish to specialise in surgery (either general, vascular or orthopaedics - all do trauma, there is no 'trauma surgeon' role as such) then the usual pathway would be;
Medical school
Foundation year 1
Foundation year 2
Short commissioning course
General Duties Medical Officer for approx 3 years
Commence surgical specialty training.
Was there anything you had hoped to do as a CMT that you do not think you could do as a doctor?
