Can I get more info on joining the REME as an avionics technician ?

Hi, I’m interested in joining the Army as an Avionics Technician with REME. if I don’t fully meet the academic requirements, would I still have the chance to take the BARB or TST tests to qualify? I want to be sure of my options before I apply. Thanks very much!

Good evening Dozy,
Interesting question, alot of jobs within the Army don't require much or any academic achievements. This being said those that do, do require the prerequisites.
If you don't have those when applying, you could join an alternative area of the Army and gain the qualifications you require for avionics technician whilst serving and ultimately have the Army subsidence your qualifications. Then transfer when eligible.

That sounds like a solid path. I'd be more than willing to start in a different role if it gives me the chance to work toward becoming an Avionics Technician with REME in the future. I'm very motivated to take that route if needed.
Could you recommend which roles would be suitable starting points that still align with a technical or engineering background? Also, would I be supported with the qualifications I need while serving?

Afternoon Dozy,
I'd recommend sticking with the REME or potentially the Army Air Corps (AAC). REME because it's within the same Capbadge.
The ACC could be an option to explore also, as we have the rotary aircraft that contain similar roles.
We are also assisted gaining qualifications throughout our careers, with them being subsidized through standard, enhanced learning credits and even completely free on occasions which is of course a great incentive especially considering your overall aim to join and progress to whilst serving.
