Can I do any trade in the airborne sappers like an electrician, or do I have to do a specific trade for that regiment?

Hi Jacob - When you join the Royal Engineers you will join based on your trade. From there as you progress through your training you will make preferences on where you would like to be posted. For e.g. you might want to have a posting based on location due to family circumstances, like the North of England for example. If you want to be posted to a specific unit based on their role i.e. 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment or 24 Commando Engineer Regiment this will not have an effect on your trade. So, if you wanted to be an electrician as an Airbourne Sapper you will complete the All Arms Pegasus Company (P Company) Course and then later your jumps (Parachute Course) to qualify you as a Parachutist and Airboune Sapper, but you will always hold the trade of electrician. Parachute, Commando and Diver are additional qualifications, not trades.

Hope this helps and please let me know if there is anything else i can help with.

    Warm Regards,

    SSgt Rob Needham
