Anyone who joins as a soldier can apply to become an officer in the future if they have the appropriate qualifications and prerequisites.

There are a number of ways that soldiers can become officers; some people who join as soldiers are identified as having potential by their unit and are put forward; some people decide they want to become an officer, so in effect, leave and re-join as a Direct Entry Officer; and lastly, some people get to Warrant Officer and decide they want to continue their service as an Commissioned Officer, as a result they take their Late Entry Commission and become an officer.
