Can an army officer not apply for a combat camera man role?

I am intrested in becoming an officer within next year and have a passion for filmmaking. I would like to be able to combine both conducting and leading media projects and infantry soilders. How would I best go about doing it?

    Tommi,

To apply to become a RLC Photographer, you need to be a Corporal with a minimum of 8 years left to serve. You could potentially transfer from an Infantry Officer to a Photographer, but this would be unusual and would require a substantial pay cut.

There's nothing to say you wouldn't be able to run media projects within your unit as an officer, though. Many regiments have official social media channels and your passion could be useful for promoting your unit. The best way to do this would be to talk to your Chain of Command on your first posting and reach out to the Photographers for guidance on policies.
