As long as i am fit(can't lose more weight without being underweight), if my bmi is above 32, can i still be accepted?

From what i've been told people of my height have more weight not due to muscle or fat but to larger bones and sometimes increased bone density so if i was to lower my weight to follow the bmi healthy ranged i would be actually underweight and medically putting myself in danger.

    Hello,

I think there is a little misunderstanding with regard to Body Max index or BMI.

The BMI calculation divides an adult's weight in kilograms (kg) by their height in metres (m) squared. The BMI calculation does not include muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. This means muscular adults and athletes may be classed as overweight or obese even though their body fat is low. Measuring your waist to height ratio can tell you if you have excess tummy fat, even if you have a healthy BMI.

During an Army application your BMI will be taken and if over the limit of 32 a wast measurement will be also be measured. If your wast measurement is over the maximum for your BMI then you will not be allowed to continue with your application until this issue is resolved.

If you are considering loosing weight I would recommend doing so with the advice of a medical professional.

    I hope this helps, Thanks.
