As a veterinary officer are you able to move up the ranks as a normal officer would be able to do?

I can’t find much information about veterinary officers and the thought of joining the army sounds interesting, but i still want to become a vet. Does the salary increase if you can move up the ranks? And also, as a veterinary officer, will you be deployed to other countries/have to actually fight as a soldier, or are the main responsibilities just looking after the animals? thanks! Amber

    Hi there,

As a Veterinary Officer you progress in ranks the same as every other officer but start at the rank of Captain. Veterinary officers have an incremental salary that includes annual increases the same as all soldiers and officers.

Deployment will always depend on the Army's needs for where they need your skills. Your main responsibilities as a Vet will be for the care of animals and your core military skills will always be kept up to date but will be a secondary to that.
