Hi hope you're well, i am currently looking into the army reserves as an army medic, however i have previously applied as a full time but because i have had cortisone injections in my knee i got rejected instantly, would that be the same as a reserve?
What's life like in Harrogate army foundation college
I went there as a 16-year-old kid probably the best thing to happen to me some of the worlds greatest training at that age will change you as a person for the better
Be prepared for some hard times testing you physically and mentally but in the end it will all be worth it I recommend you buy your own iron and ironing board so you don’t have to share with your section
I'm Irish and not very keen on school would you recommend it over just pushing through the leaving cert (equivalent of a levels)?
How difficult/strict is it at AFC Harrogate
Daniel I would recommend finishing school first as the qualifications you gain at school will help you through your career
Ok thanks
Once you have completed phase 1 training, if you are married, do you have live on barracks or can you rent a house off the barracks to live in?
And, would my foreign spouse be allowed to live with me in married quarters if she has the correct visa etc?
Can I serve as an army reservist and study at a university at the same time?
Once you have completed all your training you can rent a military house, stay in your own private rented house or owned home and live in a flat in barracks during the week. There are lots of options.
Foreign spouses with the correct visas would be able to come and live with you in UK subject to the conditions of their government and UK government. You would have to check on the specifics with the FCO.
So during the week you have to live on barracks?
So if she got a spousal visa she would likely be ok to live with me?
You can study at university if you are Regular or Reserve. You would have to do it part time if you were Regular. I was in the Army Reserve whilst studying full time for my degree at university.
You do not have to live on barracks during the week if your home is commutable.
If she got a spousal visa she would absolutely be ok to live with you - we are really supportive of families.
Ok great! Thank you!
I have a question regarding diet. Is there scope for vegetarian meals for example? I’m sure it must be accounted for somehow due to religion but I just thought I’d be sure!
I don't know if you're allowed to answer this...How much does rent/council tax and general costs typically cost for a single accommodation and for married quarters?
Hi poppy, we cater for different kinds of related food diets.
@kim both depends on location
Hi Kim, I used to live in a married quarter. It varies where your based, I lived in England and NI different tariffs.
But it's cheaper than civilian accommodation? Do you still pay council tax, water and electricity?
But it is cheaper than civilian renting? Do you still pay council tax, water and electricity?
So council tax comes out your wage and most places so does water as its all comes under your housing rent but gas and electricity we pay for.
We being the Army or you as a person?
As in me a person not the Army
But I am in married quarters, in single living accommodation it comes out your wage
Ok cool! Thanks for the answers!
No worries
