Army Band questions

How do you 'sign up' ? How do you select which band to join or is it based on need? Do you need your own instrument? Where would basic training take place? Do you also play music during basic training? What other role, if any, do you do as well as being a band member? How much travel is involved? Is there a minimum number of years you have to serve? Can you also do other academic course whilst signed up? Do you need to audition? Any minimum grade requirement?

    Hi Lee,
I'm not a musician, but I'll try to answer a few of your questions...

You can apply through the main Army Jobs website. If you haven't done so already, it's also worth looking at the Musician job role on the Army Jobs website (links below).

I'm not familar with how musicians choose their unit, but with other roles, you can give your preferences and the Army will try to put you somewhere you want to go. Naturally, the needs of the Army come first, so you may not end up at your first preference.

The musicians I've worked with seem to travel a lot.

The entry contract for all recruits is 12 years, you'll be expected to serve at least 3 of these before you can hand in a 1 year notice.

There's opportunity to use learning credits to go on courses to develop yourself.
