I am sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but the King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard allows women, with the title "Men" in the name, and I was wondering if the Gentlemen at Arms was exclusively limited to men, or if women as well are allowed to join.
Good afternoon,
Women absolutely can do. We live in an age of equality, even if the title hasn't updated over the years.
- Candidates must be former SNCO from any of the 3 services.
- Have completed at least 22 years pensionable service.
- Have LS&GC medal
- Aged between 42-55 on appointment.
Can Commissioned Officers join, or only SNCOs?
Commissioned Officers is fine too.
Sorry i should have been more clear. It's minimum of SNCO. 😄
How does one join? Is there an application process?
You can register via your CO. If you are no longer serving but meet the criteria, then you will be required to submit your docs through your service channel for Army - MoD (MS Honors) London. Include certified service record, conduct sheets medal evidence and contact details.
Is it common for an Officer serving for 15-22 years to get an LS&GC medal?
For Officers no. As being selected as an Officer is a form good conduct in itself.
Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms appears to have a variety of varying roles that if I'm being completely honest I'm not completely familiar with. Looking into it myself following your initial question, there appears to be a roles for SNCO's, WO's, Officers also Maj and above.
As you mentioned, CO's do not typically recieve the LS&GC medal, even though it is one of the requirements for the Gentlemen-at-Arms. How could a CO wishing to join the Gentlemen-at-Arms recieve a LS%GC medal? How would I look more into the Gentlemen-at-Arms?
Truth be told, I've exhausted my knowledge within this particular question. Certainly outside of usual SME knowledge.
I'd recommend contacting the National Recruiting Centre whom I'd imagine maybe better placed to advise you on the specifics of this rather niche job role. 0345 600 8080
