Are Legal Officers able to do any further study, aside from Higher Rights of Audience (Criminal Courts)?
I heard from a friend that Legal Officers are provided with an allowance to use towards education and that some Legal Officers use this to undertake a Graduate Diploma, LLM or even PhD part time over many years. Is this true?

All serving members of the Army have a right to claim an amount each year to put towards an educational course. If you serve more than eight years, then this amount is increased. A number of ALS Officers have used these funds to undertake additional study. However, additional study is also available as part of the offer. ALS officers routinely undertake courses in academic and military institutions around the world in International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law, amongst other areas. There are also a number of jobs available (i.e., postings of 1 or 2 years) that are solely linked to academic institutions. For example, it is possible to undertake an MPhil at the University of Cambridge. To sum up, there are lots of opportunities available for wider study.
