Lucy G. asked a question to Tori C.
Hello,
Your accommodation at your first posting will depend on a few factors.
If you are married you can apply for service family accommodation, this is usually a house or flat, and the size will depend on how many dependents you have. Occasionally if there are not enough houses available they will rent you a property from the private rental market.
If you are in a long term partnership you can also apply for service family accommodation but will need to show evidence of your relationship (things like copies of shared utility bills/finances), you will also only be able to get accommodation if there is surplus available.
If you are single then you live in army barracks (single living accommodation). You can ask for permission from the commanding officer to live off barracks in your own property if you prefer. Most soldiers prefer to live in army accommodation as it's very good value and if you are posted to a new unit you aren't tied into a contract like you could be if you choose to rent privately.
I hope that answers your question. Army accommodation can be a mixed bag, but most of us prefer it as it's sociable and cheap!
