After Phase 2 as an RLC Chef, can I choose to live off-base privately or must I live on base during my first posting?

I know I must live on base during Phase 1 and Phase 2, but when I get my first posting after training, is it mandatory to stay in Single Living Accommodation for the first year, or can I rent privately? I’m hoping to move in with my partner after Phase 2. Somewhere relatively close to my unit

If you are in an established long term relationship or married/civil partnership you are entitled to Service Families Accommodation (SFA) - military houses. Depending on where your first posting is this will be up to 50 miles away from your place of work and at a very reduced rate compared to local rent prices.

If you have your own property or privately rent you can opt to live out so long as it is a commutable distance to your place of work.
