I want to join the army after I finish university (Which isn't until 2027), is there any advice and wisdom you would give me to prepare during this period?
Hi Fenton,
As you are at university, I would advise that you seek out and join either the University Officer Training Corps or even your local Army Reserve unit. This will give you an excellent opportunity to learn some basic skills and likely give you a steer as to what you might want to do in the Army. Furthermore, you will be paid for your time and will give you some structure to your physical training.
While you do not need to be super fit when you join as we build up your fitness, having a good base level is always an advantage as it gives you a little more time to think as you spend less time trying to get your breath back! Also, don't leave your application too late - we can defer when you start to later but it is hard to rush the process to get you in earlier.
Hi Josh, thank you for responding to my question. How should I build up my fitness as I am looking to bulk up due to weighing 61kg and also building up my strength and cardiovascular fitness?
The best place to start for that information is here - https://jobs.army.mod.uk/how-to-join/can-i-apply/fitness/. There is a useful training program at the bottom that utilises a balanced regime to improve strength and cardio. Maintaining a steady build up is important to condition your body for basic training.
Thank you for your advice Josh. It is much appreciated 👍
