Non Infantry
Hi there,
The 2km run requirement is what you will need to achieve in order to pass selection to join the army. So for example, if you were to join the Army Air Corps, you would need to run 2km in 12min, along with a medicine ball throw (2.7m) and a mid-thigh pull (50kg).
You can see the different requirements on our website, depending on which role you are interested in applying for;
https://apply.army.mod.uk/roles
Once in training, you will be expected to improve and develop your fitness, with progressive testing. Just for some background, when I was in training I completed a 2.4km run in week 1, week 7 and week 13. Normally, you will need to achieve the same standard prior to joining but you will definitely see an improvement, so do not fret about this.
Just to add, fitness standards and requirements are the same now, regardless of gender.
Hope that helps explain things for you, but if you have any further questions, get in touch.
